Every year since 2013, the International Women In Engineering Day has been marked to celebrate Women in Engineering. Brought to you by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES), INWED is an international awareness campaign which raises the profile of Women in engineering and focuses attention on the amazing career opportunities available to women and girls in this exciting industry. The theme for this year is – Engineering Heroes.
In commemoration of this year’s celebration, AOS ORWELL is celebrating its female engineers across board. As part of its celebration, we will be featuring one of our Engineering Heroes- Engr. Chinenye Mbonu.
Meet Engr. Chinenye Mbonu, “an Energy Professional passionate about solving the Energy problems of the nation and extremely positive about attaining Energy security. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology with First Class Honors from the prestigious University of Ghana, Legon and also a recipient of several academic awards from different organizations – one of them is the MacCallien Memorial Prize for the Best Graduating Student in Geology, 2013.
She also has a Master of Science degree with Distinction in Petroleum Geoscience from the Centre for Petroleum Geoscience where she graduated top of my class. She prides herself as a passionate individual with strong leadership, interpersonal and communication skills garnered from the Toastmasters Club International and a five year professional experience .”
We had a quick Q&A with Engr. Chinenye and here’s how it went…
How would you describe what you do at AOS ORWELL? Are there challenges that come with your role?
My role as a Field Engineer typically involves Planning, coordination, execution and deployment of High Tech services in the Electric line business segment such as Pipe Recovery, Production Logging, Plug setting. The only challenge that comes with the job is the fact that your life is not really yours because you can be shipped off to the Field on your Twin sister’s wedding morning. The job is the job and the job comes first.
Tell us about how it is like working with AOS ORWELL so far?
It has been amazing here at AOS Orwell, I do acknowledge that as a Company we have a lot more to do in terms of Female Engineers Representation but so far, I have seen some changes put in place in a very short time to accommodate the Female Engineers. I have a changing room to myself in the Wireline Department.
Describe your typical day.
My typical day starts with a 7 minutes’ drive down to the Office, changing into my coveralls and attending my daily assignment as given by my Operation’s Coordinator. My daily task can range from checking our Logging Unit suitability for a job or doing some paper work with the Sales/Commercial team.
What do love to do when you are not working?
When I’m not working, I’m definitely reading. I have read a lot of books, I am currently reading Daniel Yergin’s New book; The New Map – Energy, Climate and the Clash of Nations. I also love food.
